A Healthy Dish to Start the Day

For several years now, oatmeal has been a consistent go-to for me for breakfast. After abdominal surgery I needed something that was easy to eat, contained soluble fiber, and could help me have consistent and predictable bowel function. I started simple, and as my digestion improved I added more super-foods.
Oatmeal by itself has many health benefits partly because of its beta-glucans (a type of soluble fiber found in oats, barley, and mushrooms) which can actually benefit your immune function. From maintaining heart health and appropriate blood sugar levels, to supporting digestion and keeping your bowels functioning properly, oatmeal has helped sustain generations over the centuries. (It’s very important to only eat organic oats because most commercially available non-organic conventionally-grown oats have been sprayed with glyphosate. Glyphosate is often used as a desiccant to dry out the grain before harvest… so that damaging pesticide/herbicide goes right on the ready-to-eat oats.)
But, oatmeal is even better when we add spices. Not only do spices contain micronutrients, but with the aromas that waft from the stove while cooking, spices actually help our digestion by enticing our bodies to get the digestive juices going. “Mmmm, that smells good!”
I even add AzureWell’s Organic Fermented Turmeric & Ginger Powder to my oatmeal. First, I’m a strong believer in the value of turmeric especially after my health journey. And second, once turmeric is fermented, it loses that super-hot “bite” that is associated with curry seasoning.
The Big Win! Adding AzureWell’s Pure Collagen (it's totally flavorless) to my morning oatmeal is my way of getting extra protein (4 grams)... not just any protein, but the collagen that supports healthy hair, skin, and nails. I was eager to recover (inside and out) from the difficulties of my cancer journey.
Topping it with Organic Red Walnuts (which don’t have the bitter flavor so common with regular English walnuts) and unheated honey, are my favorite ways to enjoy this flavorful oatmeal.
Breakfast Oatmeal with AzureWell’s Collagen

2 cups Water
1/4 tsp. Salt
¼ cup Raisins
1 Tbsp. Goji Berries (dried)
2 Tbsp. AzureWell Pure Collagen
½ tsp. Ceylon Cinnamon, Organic (ground)
½ tsp. Cinnamon, Organic (ground)
⅛ tsp. Allspice, Organic (ground)
Dash Cloves, Organic (ground)
1/2 tsp. AzureWell Fermented Turmeric + Ginger Powder, Organic (Optional)
1 cup Organic Rolled Oats (Regular or “Old Fashioned”)
Red Walnuts (or nuts of your choice), chopped
Honey (or sweetener of your choice, I prefer unheated honey)
Instructions:
In a sauce pan, combine water, raisins, spices, and collagen.
Bring to a boil.
Stir in rolled oats.
Cover and lower heat to just a simmer.
Simmer for 6 to 10 minutes (according to desired consistency).
Remove from heat. Spoon into bowls (2).
Top with chopped nuts, a spoonful of honey and pour milk or cream on cereal as desired.
Makes 2 generous servings.
AzureWell’s Pure Collagen (Deep Water Marine) is tasteless and dissolves very easily in the mix. It adds a nutritious protein element to the oatmeal dish known to enhance the health of skin, hair, and nails. AzureWell’s Organic Fermented Turmeric and Ginger Powder, listed as “optional”, adds valuable nutrition for supporting the digestive system.
